A Walk Through the Seasons – Poems of Nature and Spirit

A set of seasonal poems presented on October 8, 2015 at the Theater in the Woods, a natural amphitheater in the State Botanical Garden of Georgia, Athens, Georgia. These poems have been refined and included in Thirteen Moons and a Day. This 24-minute video was recorded and produced by Anthony Barkdoll. With thanks to the Nature Ramblers, and to Bob Ayres, retired professor of religion, who funded the new theater in memory of his wife, Mary Frances.

When the Sacred Surrounds You with Signs

This video uses images and poetry to explore encounters with thin places and what lies beyond everyday perception. Our normal, everyday experience of the world is mediated by a limited set of human senses. Our perceptual world, or umwelt, differs from those of other living beings. These are only subsets of a much larger external reality. Some have turned to science, philosophy, art, or religion to probe the world beyond our umwelt. We may encounter this larger world more directly through fleeting experiences in locations the ancient Celts called thin places. In this lesson we look beyond the boundaries of our umwelt to speculate on characteristics of this larger reality, and then consider the concept of thin places. I share my own encounters through poems selected from Thirteen Moons and a Day. The audio was recorded in the Lovely Lane chapel at Epworth By The Sea on St. Simon’s Island. 29 minutes.
